*URB also did a spot on Cumbia and its digital outgrowth here. And the guys over at xlr8r had a podcast a little while back on the same group, Zizek Collective. Check the latest South American export here. Diplo also talks about them in his mad decent podcast, I don't know how long ago that was but it's under "soy cumbia" I believe.

It looks like Cumbia is getting some attention within the hipster crowd thanks in large part to the efforts of this man, who also had his hand in the magazine's focus on Kuduro a few issues back. It's a bittersweet moment when a niche interest gains such popularity - it's only a matter of time before MTV picks up what the hipsters are up to and the song is featured in some corny commercial. They even have a little bit on Ebony Bones and as happy as I am at the added income this kind of exposure will bring these artists (let's face it, not many people would turn down an extra check in these trying times) I can't help but wonder at what expense this will happen.
